Coaxial cable
Coaxial cable, or short coax cable, stands for unbalanced two-pole high frequency cable with a concentric structure. The coaxial cable is composed of an inner conductor, which is surrounded by hollow cylindrical outer conductors at a constant distance. The outer conductor is protected by an insulating, corrosion-resistant and water-tight sheath to the outside and shields the inner conductor from interference. The space between inner and outer conductors serves as an insulator and is referred to as a dielectric. The dielectric can proportionally or entirely consist of air. The characteristic impedance of a coaxial cable and the frequency dependent attenuation is largely determined by the structure of the cable. You can use a coaxial cable as a 'flying' coaxial cable without fixed installation, often used as an antenna cable for radio or TV reception, or as RCA (Cinch) connection in audio technology.
